Concert was well done: Chun Yin

Hello. Ok, I know this post is late by a day... but oh well was at someone's house last night so... Ok ok so I didn't go home.

All I can say for the concert is, well done!

For the evening show, I really heard an orchestra that certainly dazzled our audience and left many others with vivid memories. And just like how we bragged in our sponsorship and group purchase forms, we really played magnificent music, so I am very sure Mr Yeo is proud of us. Our concert is titled 源; we remember how we got to what we are today and who helped us acheive our current standard. So for all the self praising that we might have for ourselves, please also remember that we would not and cannot be what we are today if not for our teachers and instructors (and conductor, who is really very important in this concert) who have been assisting and guiding us towards playing magnificent music. I hope you guys can take time off to thank your instructors, be it for their teaching in ordinary sectionals or their extraordinary effort to go the extra mile for extra practice for your own sake. And like Mr Lim Kiong Pin said, some of your instructors didn't have to come on the concert date itself to help you tune backstage or run through your pieces one last time so that you perform your very best. It won't hurt too much to say a little 'thank you' or write a thank you card, perhaps on behalf of everyone in your section, and im very sure teachers like it when their efforts are appreciated.

So here I would like to express many thanks to the following people for their hardwork put in for the concert: Ms Lim and Mr Chong, our teacher-in-charge, for taking care of all the general things and guiding us along,
Publicity comm, for your hardwork in getting sponsors and group purchase, especially Gilbert Soh, Eugene, Patrick, Hong Bo, Sng Zheng, Samuel, and etc for your hardwork in getting ticket sales!
Wenqiang, Qingyu, Yuchen, for your great work in design comm. (Our poster is marvelous, I heard that from two people already.)
Logistics comm, for your effort on that day itself and preparation as well, specifically Jun Sean, Shaun Ee, very responsible logistics and backstage ICs, you two made the concert run very smoothly. And stagehands and emcees!
Alumni and guest performers, thanks for saving the day when RICO was desperate for people! Yee Siang for being a hardcore ticketing IC! =)
Advertising comm! Ben Aw, Sng zheng, yee siang etc.
COncert booklet: Jeremy, renyan!
Overall IC: Renyan =) for overall icing and doing a lottt of work!
Reception: Shujian!
Food IC: Jinghua!

If I have left out anybody... im sorry... but don't blame me coz im feeling very sleepy now =.=, so in a nutshell, Thanks everybody for making our concert a success.

Lastly, since we work hard, we must play hard too!, and since we learnt to hardcore, we must learn to slack! Somewhere next year, we'll have a celebratory party ok? =)

Rock on, guys.

The Template!

Eek! Just as I changed the template, a whole host of content once hidden by the lousy rhapsody template manifested itself! Check out the CO photos! The list of tanbo people! The links section! (Which is outdated and needs to be updated.) Some other extra links! The music! And the waaay better archive! So after I fuse the good stuff from the old tanbo blog into this new shell and add a better template, this tanbo blog will reach the zenith of tanbo-blogness!

Makeover

The tanbo blog is undergoing an extreme makeover! The biggest change is the template, but it is meant to be just temporary, as the blog's platform is upgraded. Everything will stabilize soon.

Eugene!

The CO member of this week is... Eugene! Eugene is the new tanbo SL for next year (Quite a low profile one though.) and a pipa player! He plays the erhu too, I think. And that's all I can put about Eugene, but maybe others can add more! to this post!

Isn't this picture such a great one? Someone called JY took it.

TANbo rhapsody, the tanbo blog.

I wonder how many of us (tanbo members) actually frequently check this blog for updates. Well not that there have been any recently, but well being the Tanbo blog, I really hope that can come a day where we can tell of our pride and passion of being Tanbo members. (I know what you're thinking, its like: "errrrrrrrrr...") But anyway, blogs can prove to be quite useful especially when dissiminating information, and lessen workload for our beloved SL.

So, eh, what are you gonna do about it? That we're not visiting our own blog.

Ok, lets start a fun WHO KNOWS THE SECRET PASSWORD GAME, shall we?

If Eugene randomly asks you for the secret password, and you don't know the secret password, you die. Ok, if you don't wanna die you play Jingle Bells on your instrument. And sing along. (Or actually any other random piece that Eugene might favor, since hes King).

This week's secret password is: I DON'T KNOW THE SECRET PASSWORD

Eh ok SHHH don't go round telling. Its secret. And besides you would want to see your friends getting tortured by playing Jingle Bells. So lets see you next Sectionals on Wednesday at 2pm with the Secret password I guess.

Bye,
I-must-be-so-sleepy-to-spout-all-these-rubbish.

hiya

Hi! EOYs are coming and Ive just thought of some way to remember notes, we can relate them to co! For example if you want to memorize the amphoteric oxides, lets remember lets say a liuqin: When you put marks on a liuqin you use pencil, so-lead!, next the liuqin when old gives off smell (ok no offence) so its smelly like: Ammonium! Lastly the liuqin uses a flat bopian and when we think of flat we think of-Aluminium!!!! So there now you can see how co helps in memorizing of our notes. It is effective and easy! So, why not pick up your instrument and start relating now?

Happy mugging,
lalalala

Practice today

Hi guys,

I think today’s practice has had a marked improvement on the deadlock that we seem to be trapped in for the past few weeks or so…he seems to have simmered for now with his greeting and all.

Hope we can keep this up and prevent future diplomatic rows.

By the way, please suggest possible translations of the song titles that we’re performing for the concert, along the lines of Lunar Representations of the Cardiovascular Organ.

100 days left to EOY concert.

Minus exams, holidays, whatever you have, bleargh there is barely enough time left. So for those who continue to screw around during practices or not in the least concerned about coming for practices, stop screwing around. Please remember the purpose of this concert. If we don't want to go make a fool out of ourselves on 14.12, then we had better wake up. There is barely enough dazus left to rehearse all our 13 songs, let alone master them. Please also try to remind your juniors / peers / seniors of practice like the day before, since Tanbo Section is really such a forgetful bunch of people. Thats all.

About xiaozu recently

Recently, as we all know, xiaozu practice has become somewhat disruptive, because of our lacklustre behaviour since ages ago. Particularly because of differences in personality and the varying attitudes that different members have for RICO. So, at last Monday’s practice some of us stayed behind and mulled over the dilemma that we were facing. It is apparent that the issue has been so prolonged and pent-up that I think we must address it immediately. For the fear that this matter may blow out of proportion and spiral into more trouble than needed (think Murphy’s law), I will only list out some of our problem areas that have caused this dilemma.

First of all, it must be admitted that our basic punctuality is quite sucky. People come in one-by-one at various times; indeed, I don’t remember any time when we started practice promptly at 3.30 sharp. Because the RJCO room too far away for people to collect their instruments by 3.30, since school invariably ends at different times. So I’m suggesting we push practice hours back by 30 minutes, i.e. 4-7pm. So far most people are okay with it, so Wen Qiang has agreed to put the decision to a vote at next practice.

That is the smallest problem by far, however. A more severe reason for our poor rapport with X so far is because our standard and commitment to RICO is not quite up to standards. One xiaozu practice a week, although supplemented by dazu on Saturdays, is hardly enough for myself, while in the past because we had two xiaozus a week, our standard may have been better. The assumption is that we will do self-practice at home. Personally, even as I have my own zhongruan, I hardly ever have the time to do much more than half an hour on my own. What more our members who don’t have their own instruments, or don’t bring home? Wen Qiang has thought over this (and been rejected as well), but I think it’ll be beneficial if we can get Wednesday or Friday for self-practice.

Thirdly and most importantly, we need to raise our commitment level to much higher. Some people (hint hint) don’t come very often for practice, and some others choose to go home even if an hour or two of practice still remains. And as Chun Yin has said before, we need to be more respectful and responsible to (hint hint) if we want to actually get more substantial progress done during xiaozu practice. Like greet with more sincerity at least.

If we don’t want to screw up for the upcoming concert, but uphold our dignity as a core CCA on par with others, and also live up to Mr Yeo’s expectations of us, I think change has to come from within. Now.

(Please comment on the proposed changes: pushing back of practice time, restoration of extra practice hours.)

lets move on!.....

Hiya.....somehow after the incident the blog has become so empty..... well, yang lao shi's incident has taught us many things so guess with him still in our hearts we should move on? With that said i guess the blog has to move too or else it will become a lifeless blog......

Since got nothing to do lets talk alittle bout the mozart ! Firstly i do not know what art has to do with mozart or what beethoven has to do with a bee....... Thus apart for deeming it as random i dont know what to say. Much less what co has to do with a mozart? Imagine for a second mozart holding a erhu playing some silent night or whatever......Not that it will sound bad for its definitely hard to relate. There are ofcourse special reasons such as due to industrialization of china that bring mozart to get entangled with co but why force such a combination? forcing is evil.......(as jy would say) Its hard to see who benefits..... Well, thats that.....

Eh, can someone like post also.........continue the blog! Save the earth! Post a word! Watch live tanbo! watch....

Friday, July 13, 2007

Guys, I know...I know. I made a promise never to post again. But this is an exception.

I know many of us are deeply affect by yang lao shi's passing. Particularly the sec 3s and 4s, because they have been under his guidance for a longer time.

All I can say is yang lao shi was a good man, who always believed the best in everyone. No matter how many times we failed and disappointed him, he never gave up on us. Yang lao shi really sacrificed a lot for us. Do you know that he devoted the most time on us, we were the only main CO that he was teaching?

Remember him, remember his kind words, his comforting smiles. Remember him as the man he was.

Thats all I have to say.

Thursday, June 21, 2007

Hello, this is an entry in response to Eugene's post on looking at practice in a very basic perspective. (Im so sorry Eugene, I always feel an obligation to respond or say something else when theres a post here - my point is, Im sorry that your post doesn't usually last long on number one spot). Ok, I've had some personal experience, I think very importantly when we practice we need to do so in a smart manner, not blindly, because the latter would only lead to a waste of time, and if you blindly practice you need to spend more time getting back on track. Yea, so as I was saying, for tan tiao etc, sometimes when we feel frustrated that we're not improving though we mug our instrument for damn long, we need to step back, take a deep breath, inspect our surroundings, mayb e have a cup of coffee or do some push-ups, look at the big picture before picking up the instrument again. Sometimes if we practice the wrong way, we'll seem to never get it right. Eg. Tan tiao, sounds complicated, with positioning of wrist hand leg etc, but most importantly tan tiao has to be natural and relaxed. Should'n feel like too stressed out, arm too aching or something, because if that happens you're probably learning the wrong way. Yeap, so if I didn't make sense, erm, doesn't matter. But I hope this helps =).

quOtE

Hi, to keep the blog alive and to be random im sharing a quote : “终身役役而不见其成功,(nie)然疲役而不知其所归,可不哀耶!” let me briefly explain before explaining the relation, 一生努力无成,一世疲劳而无归宿,多悲哀! looks strange, but the actual ideology behind this is to look at different perspectives and youll see the light, seriously. Ok, this may sound lame but this is equally important when practicing instrument, im serious. Its like when you practice, dont think like this is dam hard, im gonna fail, dam hard dam hard. Rather, you should look at a different perspective, i dont know about other sections but for tanbo instrument its a very basic perspective, isnt it just tan n tiao? I dont know if you can fully get what im saying but think about it, theres meaning to it :) (before i forget bibliography to zhuangzi)
yippee tanbo blog survives on!!!!!!!!!!

Importance of tan tiao

:) if you wan to be 无人 please also cover up people's names, you get what i mean. :) Anyway heres the new camp packlist for tanbo:

-Wallet (must have 50 dollars at least inside so each can steal around 30-40 dollars leaving 10 dollars for emergency)

-Handphone (bring the best one you have, we will appreciate your effort)

-Ball (this one you dunno why rite......so can bo-ing *especially for tanbo ppl*)

-Any expensive jewellry (if possible)

-If your instrument is expensive please do bring :)

All gainings will go to the tanbo fund :)

Optional items to bring:
-Yourself (strictly optional, just bring valuables)
-your brain (basically valuables are more important)
-change of clothes (unless its branded)
-water bottle (unless branded)

lame?

..........chun yin, please tell me the last part wasnt lame.... Anyway

these few pics are from the words 琵,中阮,柳. bibliography from kwang yi n junyu lol they show me during practice. The liu i tried one, i tot of chunyin liuqin stand OO. Hope this adds to the lameness here :)

A picture speaks a thousand words, lemme count till now i have said 1061 words. Eh come tanbo jokes, Where is jy's liuqin? it liu zou (溜走) le. Actually theres another answer, guess? It pao diao (跑调) le. I give one IQ question, Guess why do tanbo string not make sounds during practice? BEcause......... I shall walk faster so i dont get lame, bb :)

Random fact of the week

RICO is a 102 men strong (and growing) vibrant orchestra!

--

Omg that rocks
Monday's practice was rather fruitful I guess? Perhaps we should set aside about 20 minutes of each practice just to listen to songs. 20 minutes of each dazu or sectionals, just to listen to the songs that we're supposed to learn and play. If the teacher has arrived by then, then he/she could listen together with us =). After all, playing a new song is just like wandering in the darkness... unknown of what lies ahead. Some time would be needed to make out what the song is actually about, before we can actually play it confidently... just like 莱佛士,for the part where the different sections are supposed to come in one after another, its a bit difficult because we are unsure of the exact time to come in... so if we listened to the song beforehand... while referring to the scores, we would have a better idea of the song and naturally... we would have a clearer idea of rhythm, notes, tempo, etc. All these is... provided we have the MP3. But this shouldn't be too difficult, most of the songs that we're playing have actual recordings.

Attendance wasn't too bad... just that people like Jiayu, Yi nan, Cheng Xiang were absent for some reason... (I'm not saying they ponned... but I believe that they had a good reason for being absent)... Wherever you are, if you're listening, just remember that Tanbo misses you!

Mr Ling HL looked quite happy =). We should try to keep him this way =). Really. Teachers have a tough time trying to make sure that they do their job well... and the least we can do is to practice practice practice so as not to disappoint them! Yeap.

It would be great if tanbo could play it well... next concert! Or at random events like CIP at Old Folk's Home or whatever! Im really really not trying to sound sarcastic but we can do it! Who wants to practice + mug + random hang around on Friday? =)

Oh yea. About the yellow squishy ball... Im really sorry I brought it and distracted Tanbo for a while... We really shouldn't be playing "hit the target" during sectionals... and furthermore it was in a classroom... Against the school rules... I'll... bring a bigger ball next time! No just kidding...

Oh. And I just received a sms from Mr Qian Dong Heng...

Er... sorry about the random thoughts in this post... Thats all from me in a courageous attempt to revive the blog! =)

Let's talk again

Hey dudes,

1) Anyone interested in the camp committee? Contact your friendly local committee member.

2) I see that this blog is usually kept alive by 1 or 2 imba people that spam posts. I neither have the time nor the inspiration to do that, so please POST!

3) I'm too pissed and tired to really discuss CCTs. Contact me personally.  :)

4) Good luck to all prospective Sec3 committee members! All the best, and never lose yourself in the dizzying maze of leadership. God knows its tiring enough.

Have fun,

Statement from the Lee DW School of International Policy Studies

Saturday practice is back again. Do you know what that means for us?

It means waking up at 8+ to travel to school(depending on where you stay), then practice for around 3 hours. Then another one hour trip back home or wherever.

It means the convenient ignoring of a letter given to our parents before SYF stating that the school was sorry, we need to add Saturday CCA for your son, once SYF is over we'll stop it.

It does mean no Friday practice. But the time spent in the run-up to the 3.30 Friday practice and the run-up to the Saturday practice are two different things altogether.

On Friday, we are already in school. Now, you are either in a merit CCA that is held after school (that's why CO starts at 3.30) or you, like me, slack around in the Bishan area before that. The library is overrun by CO people before 3.30. People either rest or mug.

On Saturday, we have to actually go to school again, just like weekdays. Honestly, what do you like better: staying back for a bit to go for CO, possibly using that tme for something good, or having to specially come to school on Saturday?

Now, you may be dismissing me for a lazy conservative person. But you want to be politically correct? So can I.

The Government has implemented a 5 day work week as standard throughout its departments. The MOE has also strongly supported this action. (http://www.moe.gov.sg/parliamentary_replies/2004/pq19102004.htm)

When the current batch of Sec 4s were Sec 1s, we had a Saturday xiaozu. Because of the 5 Day Work Week that was cancelled.

Have you considered family time? Does your family actually like you running to school to Saturday? The first day of the weekend?

Now, many people say it is 'necessary' to hold practice then. That is ambiguous.

Firstly, is holding xiaozu on Monday and dazu on Friday wise? That's a 4 day gap between the two of them, people.

Oh wait, there's a solution. Anyone feel like Wednesday practice? Hmmm?

Another reason given is that Mr Lim can't make it on Friday. I shall conveniently ignore the fact that he actually came on Friday before, not once, but twice. But I shall not speculate on his schedule.

What is more important, the orchestra or the conductor? I am not in any way disrespecting Mr Lim. He is a very, very good musician. (http://www.sco.com.sg/about_orch_musicians.asp , scroll down to the bottom, see arranger-in-residence) But everything is give and take. If we sacrifice too much...well, there's no end to it, is there?

Weekends are there for a reason. Rest. Homework. Family time. So on and so forth.

Choose carefully. Unfortunately, if you're not on one side you're on the other. You can't pon and not not mean to pon at the same time.

“Every board member should have the right to stand up and vote the way they believe in. Just because the board is not voting 5-0 doesn't mean it's dysfunctional.” Christopher Myers

P.S : Good luck for CCTs. I'll talk about them next time if I haven't already been arrested. O.O

An Open Letter

Dear Wen Qiang,

I don't know if you're reading this, but I hope you are.

I take back everything that I criticized you for. I take back all my comments about you taking over the tanbo blog.
I see it now, that you are immensely hurt.

I and most of tanbo have seen you blame yourself for everything that tanbo and the CO does.
I for one have seen you go into despair at comments directed at section members.
And I apologize for not doing the same. I as the so-called 'de facto' SL apologize for calling myself that. I should stand up and bear tanbo's misery as well.

How did that feel? Fun? Sadistic? Satisfying? Did you like reading what you write?

Wen Qiang, we recognize your limitations. We know where we have gone wrong. It's just that we, to put it in a suitably 'sensitive' way, have not attained the emotional maturity needed to see the pain and stupidity with which we act.

Wen Qiang, we are not dumb. And you are not dumb either.

Taking the heat for everything that we do is not noble. It is not glorious, it is not inspiring. You are our Sectional Leader. Leader. Have you ever thought about that?

'A leader is a dealer in hope.'
Napoleon Bonaparte

Pray tell, how are you going to lead by committing hara-kiri and backing down every time something happens? You are indeed concerned for us. That I know. But as a classmate, CCA mate and friend, I order you to stand up and fight. Not break down into emotional anguish every
time something attacks.

Yes, I order you.

I know that you are concerned for us. PT, the speeches and so on. I saw the labours that you took to prepare your speech. So, for our sake and yours, stop tearing yourself apart. If you really care for us, I have one piece of advice: go out there and show the flag. Stop putting on a show
of emotions.

I am sorry to have to bring this up in such a way, but I really see no choice.

Tanbo, I have not forgotten you. We must rally behind Wen Qiang. He is, after all, our SL. I shall not further attempt to fuck around with tanbo and his name. For, from today onwards, we are one again.

We shall help each other to overcome.

Honestly speaking

Upon reading what Wenqiang wrote as his parting words for Tanbo, I think we all know it hasn't been the first time that he has put himself down so severely. I quote from his last post:
A SL who does check attendance regularly, A SL who has to delegate his tasks to others, A SL who always critizes tanbo's standard when his own skills are woefully inadequate.
Indeed, he might have been estranged from the rest of Tanbo because of the different practice venues. There were definitely inconveniences caused by this, but I'm convinced that what he has been doing for Tanbo so far has been nothing but great - being one "who
does check attendance regularly", "delegate[s] his tasks to others", and "always criticizes Tanbo's standard". The pumping and all sorts of unprecedented initiatives he came up with, though time-wasting, was actually quite all right, in retrospect. Of course, he may think that he has not put in his greatest effort; but really, who can safely say that they can do so for everything? With the outrageously busy RP schedule we all have to endure with? Most importantly, however, is the fact that he has dutifully carried out all his responsibilities and have had the courage to criticize himself before others, is honestly something commendable.

Is that woefully inadequate? I seriously think not.

(Sotsugyou ~ Sayonara wa Ashita no Tameni (Graduation Farewell is for Tomorrow))

Yo. This is Valance, signing in for perhaps the last time in this blog. Therefore, my post may be longer than usual, cause its highly unlikely that I will ever post again...

Firstly, the reasons are many. However, this decision is reached solely by myself and has nothing to do with anybody. Blogs is gradually becoming more and more of a hassle for me, due to a heavy workload this year. As a rule, I always like to make my posts long and meaningful, something which I have been failing to do all the day. Thus, I cannot no longer ensure the quality of my posts, due to my hectic schedule. And posting in chinese is even more troublesome, as I type very slowly; so thats one of the reasons why I decided to stop as well.

Secondly, I have been accused (and rightly so) that I have been abusing this site, painstakingly created by others for the tanbo, and using it as my personal blog. I can find no defence against their accusations, and I feel extreme shame for I have been violating the sacred unspoken rules set down when this blog was created. This is called a "tanbo blog", and not a personal one. I should not be abusing it and flaunting this site as my own, posting nonsensical emotional topics that have nothing to do with RICO and tanbo. (something that I should never have done) In the words of a certain individual, if I wanted to post about my personal life, then I should have gotten a blog of my own. (something that I agree with) Thus, I feel that I have no right to post anymore.

Thirdly, if I were to post timing and schedule of practice times and dates, I can just call people directly. This ensures that the flow of information is continued. Posting on a blog, a blog which many people never bothers to check daily, would be fatal if someone never receives the information. In so doing, it reflects a laziness on the part of the SL, and blame should be solely laid on him.

Theres no doubt that this year's Exco and leaders are inept, as compared to previous years. And I am clearly one of the worst SLs tanbo has ever had the misfortune to have. A SL who does check attendance regularly, A SL who has to delegate his tasks to others, A SL who always critizes tanbo's standard when his own skills are woefully inadequate. Really, I'm serious, a grave mistake was made when I was chosen as SL. Being from the yangqin section, I cannot ensure that practice is carried out properly with discipline. However, since the task was laid on me, I can find no excuse to explain my negligence of tanbo. I have no right to point out faults in others, when I can inspire no confidence in them.

Looking back at this year and the last, I think I have truly found my place with RICO. I feel a sense of belonging. And I am also pride of tanbo. Tanbo has consistently been more disciplined and passionate than the other sections (I know I'm going get flamed, but since its my last post, who cares). In the current batch of sec 2s and 3s, I can really feel hope for the years to come. In them, I see people who can redeem and exceed the current batch of leaders. We have the pro people in our group like Kwang Yi, Chun Yin, Eugene, Chang Cheng, Jia Huang... They have the passion and skills of which most can never match. My only regret is that my way of running of tanbo has stunted their growth, and prevented them from realizing their true potential.

Another example of the sec 3s pwning is how they take the initative to come up with new ideas and concepts. In fact, this very blog was their product. One which I feel unworthy to take part in. I just wanted you guys to know... all of tanbo, that I am very proud to have you in my section. And grateful that you guys tolerated me and my nosense ideas. Like pumping, and writing essays..

Next moving on to CO in general, guys realize that since we changed a conductor, times are going to change. We can never go back to the days where we slacked during dazu under Mr Yeo. Like they always say, "New head, new times" We can no longer expect Mr Lim to tolerate us coming late, talking and playing a fool. We already saw the limit of his patience during Last Friday's dazu. After the session, I felt sad. Our first dazu after SYF, and we had to be scolded and adominished. Please, unless you have a valid reason, try to be fully prepared and in your seat 15 min before practice officially starts. Missing scores should also be found before dazu, another reason why Mr Lim was so mad.

I know alot of people skipped practice. To some of them, they might have felt that after SYF, there was no meaning in CO practice. To some, they might have felt that their trust was betrayed as they assumed we would be having a 1 month holiday. Well, the teachers may have been wrong to resume practice just 2 weeks after SYF, but you are also in the wrong if you do not come to practice after being reminded about it. After all, two wrongs dun make a right.

I implore everybody to be discplined during practice, regardless of xiaozu or dazu. Its okay for you to laugh at a joke told by the conductor, but keep quiet when he wants your attention. You guys have the power of technology: MSN, SMS, handphones, homephones, blogs. Is it so hard to talk about other stuff at a later time?

I address this to the entire CO, though I can say that tanbo's discpline while okay, still leaves much to be desired. We have Cheng Xiang and Jowie chatting during dazu, and Diwei occasionally trying to stop them... We have Jiayu being a comedian and his seniors playing along with him when things are serious. I know its natural for young kids to be active, but please respect the conductor when hes around.

Now, I will end off by commenting on each section...

Cello section: the cello people like Edmund and Vincent are perhaps the most discplined people in CO. They never talked unnessarily. Edmund is famous for his non-veral persuasion speech for last year's leaders allocation. Lol

Chuiguan section: a generally talented bunch, cause under the guidance of a strict and fierce teacher. Renyan shows extreme potential. jing hua is just plain weird. even though I borrowed his tuner and plug for 6 months, does not mean he has the right to kick me out of the dizi practice classroom together with the entire section just because I asked to borrow again. And Kah Khang? You are doing very well already. Keep it up! You can do it!

Huqin section: a mixed bag, has many talented people, yet some are average (not saying who). Unfortunately, their discpline is quite bad, when Yu Chen's not around.

Percussion: Home to the most talented people CO has witnessed. We had Bing Liang, Thomas, Ying Kwan, Cake (Tze en), Ai Di (Darren), and Patrick. Still hoping their discpline will improve...

Tanbo Section: Strictly personal, but you guys are the best. We have passion and skills. Really glad that I am in this section... Yeah...thats it...

Well thats it. Perhaps the last you're see of me. Its been good while it lasted.

Sayonara...

There I changed the blogskin

Forgot to save the previous stuff >__>  so I dont know the pic addr

edit: k put the image... now go put the links and stuff

Today.

Today's lesson. Was. Rather. Maybe very. Weird. His house is like so hard to find. Its not even on the map. Talk about being alone. Its like in the middle of some jungle or something. Not in the middle, but its so isolated and deserted that its rather "与世隔绝" you know. But his house is cool. Being a teacher must rock. I mean, you get to do what you like everyday, and then you can stay at home and enjoy life while your students come to your doorstep. Even if its so in-the-middle-of-nowhere type. As for the lesson, I think he pointed out so many mistakes in my basics that I felt like Mr lhl (I won't use full name, it would only make it easier for him to find this blog) didn't exist la. But maybe I really suck. He's quite a nice guy, not as scary as I thought. I really should practice more so that he can move on to more advanced stuff, perhaps. Any teacher would lose interest in teaching if his students don't improve.

Thats all, I guess.

Change of blogskin

Eh guys as you can see our blogskin isn't really anything terrific. In fact, it looks quite noob compared to some CO blogs. Right now its just a picture with a light background that scrolls down together with the black text. I've been trying so hard (and no success) for the past two nights to change the stupid blogskin but the stupid message keeps appearing that says my coding is incomplete when I'm pretty sure I pasted the whole thing into the html column. So... if anyone knows how to make this blog look nicer... please help... can try with the rico tanbo 2 blog first.

Back to normal.

yo guys. Happy to see me posting in English? Finally not so emo today, so decided to blog normally today. So far, theres nothing interesting going on. Today was pretty much an uneventful day. Its Learning Journey... sianz. First let me recount why it was a utter waste of time..

I came to school around 7.30, stoned around in class until 8. Tried damn hard to go to sleep, but apparently the entire class was in mugging fever for chem. Shouting here and there for hints and clues. Walao, they can't just understand that there are approximately 5 people in RI's sec 4 batch that do not take chem... Yeah call me stupid or whatever, but I know I'm destined for ITE (Its The End)

Ironically, we went to ITE for our learning journey, for a supposed Total Defence lesson. The bus was late for arounf 1/2 hour, so took out my cheap china mp3 to listen. I only realized that it was at Half Battery. Damn it, should have charged last night, but too late. I had to conserve the energy left. So I could not go all out and listen to my collection of 1/2h songs.

Once again, people commented on my torn jacket. Now I admit that my jacket looks weird, being torn in all places. After all I dragged it in a pool of mud and water before, used it in a tug-of war. When I left it behind at RJC, apparently not even the cleaners want it. But yeah, it serves its purpose anyway.

So back to the ITE. They listened to a lecture and got a free package. and it was here that I wondered, where was the TOTAL DEFENCE ELEMENT? everything seemed to be media propogation that tried its failing best to convince people to choose ITE. their video involved random students annoucing their love for ITE.. Lol

After that, we got taken to a brief tour of the surroundings. Some of the machinery were interesting but the only thing that caught my eye was the media interaction department. They had this freaking cool blue room to take their videos in and they could change the background at will using their computers. Charles got jacked and went into the blue area. The Media people then changed the environment to LAs Vegas. LOL. Chinaman lost in Las Vegas. haha.

Refreshment was quite okay, but the sandwiches seemed to go out of stock pretty fast. by the time, I went for second helping, I faced a empty table. sigh...

Next, we went back into the hall for a last lecture about animation. We ended off by doing some survey forms and some questions about ITE's scopes. We returned school half an hour late as a result. Thanks man.

The biggest question is how aggresive media propogation of their school has anything to do with ITE. Maybe someone planning the event got some stuff mixed up? Still, it was a waste of time.

Now, on to CO matters. be advised that this is strictly meant for tanbo. Now Mr yeo is still sick and unable to come back. Me and Yu Chen (the Huqin SL if ya dunno) were thinking of creating a compliation album which includes videos of us playing some of Mr Yeo's songs. I was thinking that tanbo should come together and play 欢欣, the version that was originally meant for tanbo. not sure about cello, but we can always rearange the scores. And I want every section to come out with some sort of ensemble or solo item. Best to be ensemble, cause its as a single group. For pipa, maybe Kwang Yi can play his item with Yee Siang again.

Since moving of yangqin is a concern, I was thinking of holding this session on Tues or thurs. normally RJCO is not using it, so we can use CO room for our video background. Now I know, you guys dun have a lot of time and have a lot of tests. Some of you may have other commitments during these days, so I'm imploring you guys to put aside 1 or 2 such days for this session. I hope to have this video done before the end of term 2. So currently, its sorta confirmed that its on either tues or thurs, unless a majority suggests another day.

there, cya next time

PLS NOTE: take 2 min off and watch this video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wm5MjHONZY0 .Its my first ever created music video. I know there are people who dun give a hoot about anime music videos but give some opinions can? I must be getting desperate to promote my video like this...

oyster poem

juvenile strings plucked timely,
ingenious bopians and zhijias scraped,
array of sounds blindy?
yet not so the "long" swerved,
under the suona would all these be covered?

random it may seem,
onward it still went (even though maybe gan pai)
carried by the wind crensenting on,
keeping in mind the go(a)l(d) ahead
so we survived! we made it!

some say its a fluke,
oblivious to reality.

do these people ever stop,
open their eyes for once to listen for once?

u cant hear the music, you feel the music.

(so what if no honours, still improvement ok!)

oyster

World Religions WARNING: MEANT AS PARODY. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE SERIOUSLY

Religions are a big part of world history. They influence ideology, causing wars, conflicts and inspire hope in their followers.

To understand religion and thus the behaviours of their followers it is necessary to understand the history of religions.

This essay will attempt to trace just that.

Millenia ago three distinct schools of thought emerged. The God school, the Instutution School and the Idolization school. The God school became the major religions of today. For more information please consult the major religious leaders so famous today for their take on the matter. The Institution school has unfortunately been closed down by the MOE (Ministry of Entertainment).

The Idolization school (hereby known as Idol), however, is where the fun began.

This natural instinct of Idol was repressed for centuries. Occasionally it would explode in a frenzy in ways like American Idol. This was how it was and how it should be.

The Idol school, (un)fortunately suddenly manifested itself in a rather ordinary-looking group of boys in the early 21th century, right before the collapse of the world order.

The Idols had 2 main groups : the Zhengqingyu and the Jiayuism. Other movements were formed but they were smaller.

Devotees to Zhengqingyu worshipped the Truth, Lao Zheng. They believed he was the be-all and end-all of everything, so any explanation for inconvenient dilemmnas like:
"If you can do anything, can you make a stone you cannot lift?" Ans: "Lao Zheng."
"Who created Lao Xheng in the first place?" Ans: " Lao Zheng."

Interestingly, this religion originated when an individual by the name of Jia Yu suddenly realized the Truth and started spontaneously worshipping Lao Zheng. And Zhengqingyu-ism was born!

It took a dull and dreary RICO by storm. First it gained a foothold in the liberal Republic of HuQing. Then emissaries were sent out to the United Musicians of Chuiguan and the usually repressive Tanbo Faction, who warmed to the idea and were soon falling over each other to worship the Zhengqingyu. Interestingly, the normally no-holds-barred liberal Kingdom of Perc and its king refused to have anything to do with it.

Temples were built. Paintings were drawn. Offerings were made. Zhengqingyu-ism seemed unstoppable.

Then from the depths of the Tanbo Faction a little-known man became famous overnight.

Yi Jiayu's rise to fame is badly documented. It supposedly started with a small band of followers in the Liuqin Estate and ended with him being the mascot of Tanbo.

His message of 'Strawberry flavoured Jiayu fishcake' spoke powerfully to Tanbo's starving soldiers, who has been surviving on used strings, bopians, scores and zhijias for centuries. The Yangqin Principality didn't even let them chew on the slightly more nutritious Qingzus.

In any case, strident opposition from the Yongjun Party from the Yangqin Principality was ignored and the Tanbo Faction embraced Jiayu, not exactly wholeheartedly but more like a way to fight back against the 'foreign talent' of Lao Zheng.

An open challenge to the Zhengqingyu was right there for all to see. What would the powerful Republic of HuQing and the United Musicians of Chuiguan do?

At first, not much.

However, when the TF(Tanbo Faction) set up a blog it proved too tempting a target.

The United Musicians of Chuiguan(UMC) were unable to put together a response due to internal strife but this was not the same elsewhere.

Commander Winter and Officer Jiemin of the RoH(Republic of Huqin) were unofficially sent to set up a competing one and fight back. As troops massed in the borders, both sides resorted to air attacks on 'tagboards' the codename for a feedback unit.

Both side's weaknesses became apparent: the RoH was strong only in lobbying for support and converting people. Militarily their troops were ill-trained and lacked discipline and relied on human wave spam attacks. The TF was pretending to ignore the attack and its members lived in a state of relative innocence. Only the commander, Valance Chan, and the de facto Deputy Commander, Wei, stood up against the assaults of their opposite
numbers on the TF side.

The CO Jihads will be discussed in another essay from the Lee DW School of International Policy Studies.

Till then, happy studying, slacking and sleeping.

Now go --- I’m busy lazing around.

Disappointments

just checked the marks for this term's Progress Report. One word: BAD...
OMG. i actually got better marks for bio than phy. Thats like....so wrong. considering that physics had only 2 assessments I think. Ones the practical, the others the CCT. Which I screwed up both...

Chinese was a pleasant surprise, I think I got top of class. LOL. something to be happy about then. Eng and Lit were not up to expectations and I forgot to check Hist's marks. DAMN. Oh and maths was barely scraping 60. Not bad lah, considering half my class failed outright or in the dreaded "yellow zone". But then again, most people in my class suck at maths, so not very good comparison.

AH. so many things to do. I must do at least 10 chin-ups for NAPHA, get back my 3.6 for maths, get 3.6 overall for these year. These hard-core gyming and training plus mugging. Sigh...

RE was rather slack today. (Like always) Malani D'crux was late (as usual) for around half an hour and me and Yu Chen went to RJ to get snacks. We discuused our book club books "The Giver" which was rather meaningful. However, there was several parts where the topic shifted to whether the giver was gay. LOL Intense debate followed. And I ended up applying for sponsorship on behalf on the group. Damn Yanwei, if only he donated some of his money, we can afford anything now.

Going gyming tmr with Yu chen, my first time gyming actually. Hope its the start of something new and consistent. And PLAY! Concert is finally out. June 15,16 tickets at 20-70 bucks. Must get 70 bucks ticket, its a freaking once in a lifetime opportunity. Seems like only I found out first. Am I the only one who reads newspapers? Rhetorical Question. Obviously yes.

Tmr is a great day. Slack lessons all the way which ends off with a free period. Alba is not coming for English. YAY!!! haha, I was kinda screwed by her today. the entire class owe her 120 pushups, I was giving a warning for practicing long teng paigu skills on the table. I ended up standing for the rest of the lesson. Luckily punishment was not something lame. Last time, the class sang birthday songs to the bushes outside the raja block. Damn funny. Conviently, I went to the toilet and watched the entertainment. my class saw me and all cursed at me. Lol, made a few enemies...

Anyway, cya again next time. with me around, this blog has no fear of being dead. Unless I die myself of course

Randomness

Valance here. We had our celebration lunch at the dead man's land in RI (spooky eh?) Ghosts and spectrals threatened to choke our last breaths but LAO ZHENG scared them away with his holy aura.

haha, lunch was pretty much sad and pathetic, with low quality food (did anyone see those vegetables?) Still it was nice of Ms Lim to treat us all considering it came out of her pocket money. Thats around 60 people plus instructors. Wow, I'm surprised she did not ask yanwei to sponsor. If Yanwei agreed to sponsor and told us to keep the change, the entire of Singapore will be a shiny gold dot, if it does not submerge into the ocean. LOL

I sat with the star-studded crowd at the HOLY table. We had Yihao: Sheng SL, Zhen Xiao: Vice Chair, Diwei: Secretary, Yanwei: RICO sponsor, Yuchen: Huqin SL, me: Tanbo Sl, Yonghseng: Dizi pro, KAH KANG: the uprising suona star...AND LAO ZHENG!!!!

Lol, we were too interested in worshipping Lao Zheng with offerings that we almost forgotten to eat ourselves. As usual, only Lao Zheng can eat first, otherwise occuring his heavenly wrath. I forgot this fact, and saw the Qingyuism God Mark outside my house in the dead of night later. Thus I paid the price by doing 200 pushups in front of it before LAo Zheng was pleased.

But back to the lunch, apparently Lao Zheng eats his soup with chopsticks. WAH. Damn imbar.
But we had a couple of impertinent young skirts who sought to emulate Lao Zheng by being their usual crazy self. They include Yong Jun, Jiayu and perhaps Chunyin or Eugene. Apparently, they thought it amusing to barbecue meat on top of the charcoal in the steamboat...lol. Jokes aside, but it would create more inconvience for the owners there. But as they say, "Kids are kids. One must take a lighthearted approach to kids, asuming with fatalistical faith that maturity will arrive someday." Lol

Later on, after lunch was finished, Zhen Xiao and Shi Heng led everybody in a cheer for teachers. (It is noted that Shi Heng rarely says anything. I dun mean to be insurbordinate but its a sad fact of life that the second-in-command is always the noticable one) Sent a encouraging message to Mr Yeo with yu chen. Yu Chen did not say which school he was from, so most likely Mr Yeo thought he was a random spammer. Thus, he did not get a reply "thank you" like I did. Lol

Afterwards went to do chinups with Yu Chen, Zhenxiao and YY. All damn imbar, except me...Sigh.. Yu chen was almost poledancing on the bar.. Anyway, seems that its been a worry that when the sec 4s leave, CO is gonn suffer. Well, without LAo Zheng, obviously. But really, Sec 1s-3s, have confidence in yourself, the sec 4s are not that pro. Well, its been a long post, so cya again nxtime...

This blog is not dead

Really. To make sure that it is still breathing, I shall take the initiative to post once every few days. Nothing really happened this few days except for steamboat yesterday... which... er... was rather fun. Or fun(ny). The nostril stinging stench of roasted/burnt prawns filled the air towards the end of the steamboat. Some people were geting bored. And not suprisingly, people sitting at the table beside us were roasting the poor prawns over the hole where the charcoal were (pepper was added and the whole thing was hanging on a burnt satay stick plus the whole thing was wrapped in lettuce), We really rewarded ourselves for our hard work with the sumptuous meal (there was shark's fin)... Well maybe the one month break is a good enough reward already... but the first GOLD in eight years is really something that we should be happy about... Nvm... now that we are at this standard already... we should aim higher next time (this goes without saying)... and we have certainly proved to ourselves that we are not a bunch of useless money eaters.

So, this blog is really not dead. Well, at least not with me around.

The "commander"...signing in

Yoiz. Actually my first posting in a blog. Wanted to create a personal one myself...but did not know how to design the site. Haiz.

Anyway, this is Valance. In case no one knows who I am. I am your crazy domineering SL, the worst in many years. Please treat this place as your personal place where you can share about anything regarding your experiences in school or otherwise (explicit content WILL be censored)

Gives me a chance to understand more about you guys and understand the new religion known as Jiayuism.

Thats it, cya folks sometime. And try not to spam?

Tanbo blog finally created!

Yay 弹拨 finally has a blog! Credits to Tam Chun Yin, Eugene Yap, and Yong Kiam (hey it wasn't easy ok).
Hello. We take back our sentence "tanbo is the best section in RICO" and we sincerely apologize for any sense of inferiority and any other effects that may be caused to anybody who reads the false and hasty claim/generalization. This type of thinking really shouldn't exist when we're all in an orchestra where everyone plays a part. =) (we shall stay communist)
